Embroidery on leather: how it works

How a logo or a crest becomes stitches in a hide, what artwork works, where it can go, what it costs and how the stitch preview protects your jacket.

From artwork to thread

Embroidery on leather is not printing. A digitiser redraws your artwork as a path of stitches, choosing satin stitch for lines and lettering and fill stitch for areas, and sets the density so the needle does not perforate the hide. The embroidery is sewn into the panel before the jacket is assembled, and the lining covers the back of it. Done right, it lasts as long as the jacket.

Where it can go

  • Back plaque, up to 25 cm wide and tall, between the shoulder blades and above the belt line. The statement placement.
  • Left chest, up to 12 cm, for a crest or initials. Not on the Trucker, whose chest pocket leaves under 8 cm.
  • Right arm, up to 10 by 12 cm, on the upper arm below the shoulder seam.
  • Lining pocket, a single line of text up to 8 cm, inside the jacket.

What stitches well

Bold shapes, clean lines at least 1 mm wide, lettering at least 6 mm tall, up to eight thread colours, and outlines around small elements. Photographs, gradients, hairline strokes and tiny text do not translate: thread cannot do what ink does, and leather needs a looser stitch than cloth, so fine detail fills in. Send vector files first (SVG, AI, EPS, PDF) or a PNG at least 2,000 px wide; one file per placement. The artwork guidelines go into detail.

Thread colour

We choose the thread to suit the colour of the jacket so the piece reads as one object: gold or ivory on black, cream or dark brown on cognac, tonal on oxblood. If you want a specific colour, say so in the notes; the stitch preview shows it before anything is sewn.

The approval round

Within five working days of your order you receive a stitch preview per placement, at size, on your leather colour. One round of changes is included and further rounds are free. We stitch exactly what the approved preview shows, spelling and all, so read it like a contract. Production starts the day you approve; lead time counts from there.

What it costs

€15 per placement, whatever the size within the limits and whatever the colour count up to eight. Artwork drawn from your description is free; changes to the preview are free. A custom jacket starts at €249,99 and a custom vest at €189,99.

Your artwork, your rights

You confirm you own the artwork or have permission to use it. We do not stitch other organisations' trademarks, or content that is hateful or unlawful, and we may decline a design without giving a reason.

Groups

For a club, a crew or a company, one crest on ten or more pieces costs 20% less per piece and custom measurements are included. The clubs and teams page explains the sizing link and the single invoice.
